Building Campaign Update Fall 2009

Nearly 10 years ago the School of Law saw the need for a new facility and began planning. When the events of 9/11 occurred the plans were put on hold.

However, with the arrival of Dean Pratt in July 2006, the campaign was reorganized and made a top priority. Since that time, the School of Law has been dedicated to building a new facility that will meet the changing needs of today’s law school community and the increasingly technological aspects of legal education. The demands of global legal education are growing, technology in the classroom is crucial for advanced teaching, our faculty members are pursuing more rigorous research agendas and cross-disciplinary work. Our law library can no longer just be a repository for books and periodicals, it must be a technology center that meets the 24-hour demands for access by students, faculty, government officials and practicing attorneys. The School of Law’s devotion to excellence requires a new facility that is responsive to student and faculty needs and provides an environment that facilitates teaching, studying and learning. The new facility will also be a place that alumni can call home.

In the past 10 years, many of our alumni and friends also saw the need and answered the call to partner with us. We are excited to share that the support we have received thus far from alumni and friends represents over one-third of the $75 million goal for the new facility. With renewed dedication, increased outreach and communication to our alumni and friends, we are confident that we will reach our goal in a few short years. We hope that you will also share in the vision and partner with us. If you would like information on becoming a partner by sponsoring a named area, or assist us in meeting our goal in another way, please contact Michelle Thaxton Hardy, Esq., Senior Director of Development at 803-777-3047.
