Ashley B. Summer joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough's growing intellectual property practice in Greenville after serving two years as a federal court clerk focusing on patent laws. While at the School of Law, Summer was an associate articles editor of the South Carolina Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Bar’s Order of the Barristers. He also served on the school’s pro bono board and received numerous academic accolades, including appointment as Clerk of Court in the Order of Wig and Robe and membership in the Order of the Coif.
McAngus Goudelock & Courie, LLC has hired Harry Herbert Stokes, Jr. in their Greenville office. Stokes' practice focuses on general liability defense including governmental liability, automobile negligence and premises liability. He graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of arts degree in history and served on the South Carolina Law Review during law school. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law (Order of the Coif; Order of Wig and Robe; Projects Editor, American Bar Association Real Property, Probate, and Trust Journal), and New York University (LL.M. in Taxation 2007).

In Memoriam
Col. James Albert "Jim" Berry, U.S. Army (Ret.), 81, died Friday, November 2, in Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, West Columbia. Col. Berry retired from the U.S. Army in 1974, and the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1992, where he served as Director of Admissions and Registrar.
1948
Former South Carolina Governor Robert E. McNair, 83, of Columbia died November 17. McNair was elected lieutenant governor in 1962 and became governor in April 1965, replacing Donald Russell. Governor McNair was elected to a full term in 1966 and served until January 1971.
1951
Homer V. "Nick" Sandifer passed away on Saturday, November 10. As a graduate of the University of South Carolina, he continued his education through the USC School of Law, class of 1951. He practiced law in Lexington on the State and Federal levels for over 40 years. He was a member of the USC Alumni Association.
1965
Richard Gantt Lawrence, of Charleston, SC, passed away on the morning of November 20. He attended Porter Military Academy, graduated from The Citadel in 1953, and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served around the world including Korea. He concluded his military career as a Captain and Professor at the University of Alabama, and in 1965 graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was second in his class and editor of the Law Review. He was in private practice from 1965 until his death. Richard was a member of the Elks Lodge, The South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the SC State Bar.
