Walt Wilkins nominated for U.S. Attorney

A 1999 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, Assistant U.S. Attorney William Walter Wilkins III has been nominated by President Bush to be the U.S. Attorney for South Carolina.

Recommended by Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham, both of South Carolina's Republican U.S. Senators, Wilkins' nomination is subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Wilkins has served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Justice Department's Greenville office since January 2005. He has prosecuted a major mortgage fraud case and large-scale gambling and international human trafficking and prostitution cases.

Wilkins would fill the vacant slot created by Reggie Lloyd's appointment as chief of the State Law Enforcement Division.
