The School of Law recognizes that experiential learning in the areas of professional skills; professional ethics; and the expectations, values, and norms of the legal profession is essential to a well-rounded legal education.

The University of South Carolina's unique position as the only accredited law school in South Carolina, coupled with the fact that our graduates enter the practice of law at a rate well above the national average for law schools, makes the opportunities for experiential learning even more crucial. USC has a history of clinical legal education that dates back to the 1960s.

Special student-practice rules adopted by the South Carolina Supreme Court, the United States District Court, and the United States Bankruptcy Court, allow third-year students enrolled in clinical courses to represent clients and appear in court under the supervision of a faculty member.
