A Graduation Gala will be held on Thursday, May 7th from 6:30–9:30pm at the Columbia Museum of Art located at 1515 Main Street in Columbia. Graduates and one guest are admitted free of charge. Additional guest tickets are $25 (children are admitted for free) and may be purchased in advance or at the door. Cash and checks, made payable to USC Education Foundation, will be accepted. There will be live music and a slide show. The event is cocktail attire.
The School of Law Commencement will take place on Friday, May 8th on the University of South Carolina's Historic Horseshoe. The entrance to the Horseshoe is located on Sumter Street between Greene and Pendleton Streets. Commencement begins promptly at 9:00 am and lasts about one hour and 45 minutes. The Class of 2015 graduates must be in Drayton Hall at the Wardlaw College Building (across the street from the Horseshoe) by 8:00 am. Graduates should bring their caps, tassels, gowns and hoods. There is unlimited seating on the Horseshoe and tickets are not required to attend. Graduates can order regalia from the law school bookstore starting the end of February.
The Pendleton Street garage (on Pendleton between Bull and Pickens Streets) will be available for guests attending Commencement exercises. Guests may park at the metered spaces in the Pendleton Street garage at no charge. Other parking spaces there are by permit only and vehicles parked there are subject to ticketing and possibly towed. Limited metered parking is available on the streets surrounding the Horseshoe and it is patrolled by the City of Columbia. There is also handicapped parking around the Horseshoe for guests who have placards or license plates.
An area on the Horseshoe is reserved for disabled seating. If you have a guest that requires accommodations due to a disability, please contact Heather Beatty in Student Affairs by Tuesday, May 5th.
The closest restrooms available are located in the Russell House which is located on Greene Street, parallel to the Horseshoe. Law School staff will be on hand to direct guests in need of assistance to an accessible restroom close to the seating area.
If there is a threat of inclement weather, a decision will be made on Thursday, May 8th no later than 4:00pm as to the location of the Commencement exercises. The decision of location will be posted on the School of Law website (law.sc.edu). In the event of inclement weather, Commencement will be held at the Koger Center for the Arts, located at the intersection of Assembly and Greene Streets. Due to limited seating at the Koger Center, graduates will be limited to ten guest tickets. Guest tickets for admission to the ceremony will be distributed to the graduates beginning April 27th. Graduates may pick them up from Tootie Hooks in office 140. The last day to pick up rain tickets is Wednesday, May 6th. Overflow seating will be available in the School of Law Auditorium with a live video feed of the ceremony.
The only parking available at the Koger Center is handicapped parking. These spaces are limited and guests are advised to arrive early if they wish to secure a space. Parking in these spaces requires a handicapped decal. There is potential for construction to be going on around the Koger Center at that time so other parking will be limited.
There is a Drop-off Zone on the Assembly Street side of the building. This is particularly helpful during inclement weather, when guests can drop off and pick up passengers close to the doors. Parking is not permitted in the drop off zone.
If commencement is being held in the Koger Center for the Arts, graduates will meet in a large room in the Koger Center. There will be Law School staff there to direct you to the location.
The class picture will be taken immediately following Commencement on the steps of McKissick. The class picture will be available for download from the School of Law website.
A DVD of the commencement ceremony will also be recorded and available for purchase shortly after commencement.
The class picture and DVD are not ventures of the USC School of Law or the University of South Carolina. This notice is for informational purposes only.
