May 2010 Order of the Coif and Commencement

The Order of the Coif annual meeting to induct the 2010 graduate class was held on May 7, 2010 at the University of South Carolina School of Law. President-Elect Professor Jacqueline Fox, along with Vice President Brant Hellwig, and Serjeant and Secretary Wadie Said welcomed family members and graduates to the school for the ceremony.

Congratulations to inductees John Robert Brickley; James Daly Burton; Jordan Christopher Calloway; Matthew David Cavender; Dawn Marie Hardesty; Kathleen Erin Herbein; Christopher Michael Huber; Walter Lee Johnston; William Lee Mills IV; Kathrine Michele Minotti; Mark Robert Nash; Kimberly Suzanne Newton; Matthew Anderson Nickles; James Peter Rourke; Rosalyn Kay Singer; Tara Cloer Sullivan; Joshua Tate Thompson; Robert Jamison Tinsley, Jr.; Thomas Wooten Traxler, Jr.; Johanna Catalina Valenzuela; and Sarah Jeannette VanWye.

After the Coif breakfast, 201 students processed to the University’s historic Horseshoe for Commencement where alumnus, William C. Hubbard, was the featured speaker.

Hubbard earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1977, and a Bachelor of Arts in History, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina in 1974. As an undergraduate, Hubbard received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, the university's highest student award. He is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Columbia and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of South Carolina since 1986.

The winner of the Dean's Medallion, an engraved medallion presented to the graduate with the highest cumulative GPA, was Thomas Wooten Traxler, Jr.

The bronze Compleat Lawyer Award, given to three graduating students who, through their performance in law school and their relationships with students and professors, have demonstrated their potential to be outstanding attorneys, was awarded to: William Clayton Dillard, Jr.; Thomas Wooten Traxler, Jr.; and Johanna Catalina Valenzuela.
