Student Bar Association
eBrief
28 August 2006
Notes from the SBA President
The New Law School E-Brief:
This year SBA is trying something new. Each week instead of printing hundreds of
paper versions of the newsbrief, SBA will instead send an email (e-brief) to all
students, faculty, and staff containing a summary of the events and meetings
occurring that week. To find more detailed information about the event or
meeting, students can go to uscjd.com or the main law school website. To ensure
students get the weekly update, make sure and remind your fellow students to
have their correct and current email address on Westlaw/TWEN (after they login
to Westlaw/TWEN, they can make sure their email address is correct by going to
"update" link at the top left beside "My Profile"). SBA will also post the time,
location, and title of each event for the week on the bulletin board to the left
of the SBA store.
Welcome Back
Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a great summer and you are ready to get back
to the fun-filled adventure that is law school. This will certainly be a busy
semester and we have a lot of great events planned for the coming months. First
up will be the Welcome Back Party this Wednesday; I'm looking forward to seeing
all of you there.
THANK YOU
I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make Orientation a success this
year. Thank you to Dean Wilcox, Brad Rawlinson, Joanne Heiting, Blur Woodall,
the Peer Mentors, Laura Long, all the professors who attended Orientation, all
the students who helped stuff the first year notebooks, and anyone else I may
have inadvertently left out.
1L Elections - Get Involved in SBA
Are you interested in holding a position in the SBA? How about serving on Honor
Council?
Elections for 1L SBA representatives and Honor Council members will be held on
Thursday, Sept. 14. SBA needs nine representatives (3 reps will be elected from
each 1L section) and Honor Council needs three (elected from the entire 1L
class). If you are you interested running for one of these positions, you must
attend one of the two MANDATORY election meetings to pick up an application
(check back next week for meeting dates). This is a great way to get involved
and support the Law School.
3L SBA Rep Election
Are you interested in holding a position in the SBA?
One of our 3L SBA representative is taking the semester off. Therefore, SBA will
need another student to serve as a 3L representative. Elections will be held on
Thursday, Sept. 14. If you are you interested running for this position, you
must attend one of the two MANDATORY election meetings to pick up an application
(check back next week for meeting dates).

Football Block Seating
The Law School will be given a quota of 328 football tickets for each game.
While we fought to get our normal 400, this year the Law School will be given a
quota of 328 football tickets for each game. This quota was based on a
percentage determined by comparing the total number of fee paying students in
the law school and the total number of fee paying students in the entire
University (i.e. undergraduate, graduate, pharmacy, and medical students). We
were given the option to put our 328 quota into the pot with the other
undergraduate tickets, however this would mean we would have to wait in line at
the Russell House with all the undergraduate students. We felt it would be more
beneficial for our students if we could pick up our tickets at the Law School,
but this means that law students are not able to receive football tickets from
the Russell House. We have scanned for the Georgia game and the first 328
students will be given tickets. We will re-scan for each of the remaining
football games. If we reach more than our quota for the Auburn, Tennessee and
Arkansas games, recipients will be drawn from a lottery. Tickets must be picked
up from Joanne by 12:00pm on Friday the week of the game. If you do not get a
chance to scan or want additional tickets, Joanne will have a sign up sheet
available to distribute those tickets not picked up by 12:00pm on Friday.
Facebook pictures
New or replacement pictures will be taken Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday,
August 30. Faculty, staff and students who wish to have their professional
pictures retaken for the 2006-2007 Directory (Facebook) can do so on either of
these dates in the photography studio (sublevel in the law center) from 10a-3p.
2L Transfers, visiting students and new faculty are kindly asked to have your
professional pictures taken during this time also.
