NOTES FROM THE SBA PRESIDENT

Apply to be a Law School Advocate

Law School Advocates are an essential part of our Law School and serve as the representatives of our school to visitors and alumni. Advocates are involved in a wide range of activities including: giving tours of the Law School, assisting in recruiting efforts of potential students, assisting with open houses and law fairs, and participating in public relations and outreach events pertaining to alumni and the community as a whole. Students will be selected not based on grades or involvement, but on dedication and love for the school. This Fall 12 second year students will be selected (applications for first year students will go out in the Spring). So get excited and fill out an application or go see or email Beth Davis (davisb@law.sc.edu) in the Student Affairs Office. You must turn in your application or contact Beth Davis by Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5:00pm. Those selected will have an Orientation meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 12:45pm in the Attorney's Room in the Library.

1st Annual Law School Ski Trip

While it still may be extremely hot outside, go ahead and sign up for fun in the snow a few months from now. This Martin Luther King weekend, celebrate with family and law school friends at Snowshoe Mountain for the first-ever USC Law School ski trip!

There are a limited number of spots, and these will be filling up fast. So pick up a sign-up sheet at the SBA Store! (Note: Spring classes start on Wednesday, January 10, and the Ski Trip starts Friday, January 12 -- what better way to start the new semester?)

Reception at the National Advocacy Center

The National Advocacy Center has invited all law students to a reception on Wednesday, September 13 from 5:30-7:00pm. The National Advocacy Center is a joint venture of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) and the U.S. Department of Justice and serves as the training center for state and local prosecutors. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. Students will also be able to tour the Center during this time. RSVP is not required, however if you plan to attend please email laura@law.law.sc.edu or stop by the Office of Admissions so we will have an idea of the number attending. (The NAC is located on the corner of Pickens and Pendleton Street)

THANK YOU!!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this semester's blood drive. We exceeded our goal of 30 pints by collecting a total of 32 usable pints. Special thanks to Elizabeth Perkins (3L) for organizing the blood drive and Dan Canedo (2L), Clarke Newton (1L), and Erin Lawson (2L) for helping setup. Our next blood drive will be on Nov. 8th.

1L Tutoring (Academic Assistance Program)

Tutoring Sessions for First Year Classes begins this Monday, September 11. The tutoring sessions are held once a week and are separated by subject matter and professor. The schedule for tutoring sessions is posted on flyers around the school and also on the Weekly Update Bulletin Board.

The ATM machine was removed from the law school lobby this past week due to the low number of transactions. In an effort to have the ATM machine put back in the law school, SBA will have a petition in the SBA Store for all students, faculty, and staff to sign. Please stop by the store and sign your name.
