NOTES FROM THE SBA PRESIDENT
WOW! YOU SHOULD BE PROUD.
This is the only way to describe the event this past Friday with Chief
Justice Roberts. Each and every student, faculty, staff, and alumnus of
this great law school should be beaming with pride after the amazing job of
everyone involved.
We should be proud of our four fellow students, (Sarah Bayko, Brook Andrews,
Andrew Mathias, and Meghan Johnson) who stood tall and made formidable
arguments before a panel comprised of 5 Chief Judges, including the Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
We should be proud because the 424 seat auditorium was filled, other than 20
seats, entirely of well dressed law students who all demonstrated the
highest level of integrity and respect.
We should be proud because during the question and answer session following
the oral arguments, we continued to impress as our students asked Chief
Justice Roberts thoughtful and intelligent questions.
We should be proud of all our faculty, staff, and administration who worked
tirelessly to ensure this event occurred and occurred flawlessly.
Students, faculty, staff and alumni, on the morning of Friday, Oct. 20, we
demonstrated what it means to be a part of the University of South Carolina
School of Law.and we all should be extremely proud.
There is a streaming video of the event on our law school website. Also,
here is a link to another article written after the event:

SKI TRIP
The deadline to sign up for this year's Ski Trip to Snowshoe, WV is Friday,
Oct. 27. The Ski Trip is going to be Jan. 12-14 (Martin Luther King Jr.
Weekend) and for only $450 you get 3 nights of lodging, 2 days of lift
tickets, and 2 days of ski or snowboard rental. For you 3Ls, this could be
the last time you get to take a vacation without worrying about what you're
missing at work. For the 1L and 2Ls, this is a great opportunity to meet
other law students and to go skiing for an incredibly low cost. Sign up
sheets are on the door of the SBA store (you can sign up with non-law school
students as well). We want to make sure everyone who wants to go, is able
to, so if you can only pay half of the cost by Oct. 27 or have any other
questions, send me an email and we will work something out
(applebycl@hotmail.com).
MONSTERS BALL
Tickets will be on sale in the lobby on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
from 11:30-2:30. Price is $10 in advance, $15 at the door. You may buy
tickets for as many guests as you'd like - the more the merrier.
LIBRARY SOCIALIZING
It is great to talk with your classmates about class work and other research
projects. However, while in the library (even on the first floor), please
remember to keep these conversations to a minimum as your other classmates
may be studying or doing other research.

Please do not store valuables in the top of your locker. This area is not

In furtherance of the University's recent designation of USC as a smoke-free
campus, the School of Law has posted no-smoking signs in front of the

the area past the stairway leading down toward the fountain in the alcove
closest to the parking lot as a smoking area.
