NOTES FROM THE SBA PRESIDENT

SBA ELECTIONS

Executive Council elections will be held this Thursday, February 22, from 9:00 to 4:00 in the lobby. If you will not be at the Law School on Thursday, you may vote absentee in JoAnne's office Monday-Wednesday. If necessary, a run-off will be held next Tuesday, February 27. The candidates are:

BARRISTERS BALL TICKETS ON SALE

Barristers' Ball tickets are on sale now! You can get them in the SBA store or in the Lobby for $25/SBA member and $30/nonmember. The event is 8pm - midnight at the State Museum and we will have a band, open bar, and hors d'oeuvres. Dress is formal (ladies, you know what this means and guys, you can wear a tux or a suit). You don't want to miss the Law School prom, so get your tickets now.

TALENT/NO TALENT SHOW

The 7th Annual Talent/No Talent Show will take place this Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 pm in the Law School Auditorium. The show will be hosted by Dean Wilcox and third-year student Peter Leventis. Tickets will be sold in the lobby Monday through Thursday for $5 for students and $10 for non-students. Tickets will be $7 at the door on the night of the show. Please join us in the back room at Delaney's after the show in 5 Points - drink specials and cover charge of $3. All money raised goes to the Public Interest Summer Grant Program.

TOWN HALL MEETING

Dean Pratt will hold a Town Meeting this Tuesday at 12:45pm in the Law School Auditorium. If you have questions, concerns, or anything in general you would like to discuss with Dean Pratt, please make sure you attend.

KNOWLTON LECTURE SERIES

Nobel Prize-winning scientist Eric Kandel will discuss the mechanics of memory and the science of the mind in this year's Charles W. Knowlton Lecture. Kandel's lecture, "We are What We Remember: Memory and the Biological Basis of Individuality," will touch on his decades-long research into the biological foundations of memory and cognition. The lecture is open to the public.


BLOOD DRIVE

SBA and the American Red Cross team up for another blood drive. Thanks to all who helped us achieve our goal of forty usable pints at the last blood drive. The American Red Cross is experiencing a critical need for blood, so please sign up to donate! It will only take about 20 minutes of your time. There are two ways to sign up. The first is to simply drop by JoAnne's Office (Room 131-K) anytime through the date of the blood drive to sign up for your preferred donation time. Please provide her with your name, e-mail, and phone number. The other way is to visit www.givelife.org, enter sponsor code "gamecocks," and select the February 21 USC Law drive from the list of choices. Follow the website's simple instructions from there. The Red Cross will not distribute your e-mail or phone number to third parties.

JOINT JOURNAL WRITING COMPETITION INFORMATION SESSION (NOTE DATE CHANGE)

All 1Ls are invited to attend an information session about the Joint Journal Writing Competition on Tuesday, March 6th from 1:00 to 2:00 in the auditorium. Participating in the competition is required for potential members of the South Carolina Law Review, the Real Property, Probate & Trust Journal, the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal, and the South Carolina Journal of International Law and Business. Lunch will be provided. We apologize for confusion about the date and hope you can attend.

SBA ELECTIONS

Anyone wanting to run for a position on next year's SBA (Executive or Legislative Council) or Honor Council is required to attend one of the mandatory meetings to be held on Tuesday, 2/13, 12:50p in room 345, Tuesday, 2/13, 6:45p in room 345, Wednesday, 2/14, 12:50p in room 231. Executive Council elections will be held on Thursday, 2/22, and Legislative & Honor Council Elections will be held Tuesday, 3/6. HIV/AIDS SCREENING

The Health Law society is proud to be a sponsor the USC-School of Medicine's American Medical Student Association and Richland Community Health Care Association's first annual free HIV/AIDS screening. Tests are bloodless, DHEC approved, and confidential. Volunteers are needed from 10 am to 4 pm on February 21 at Campus Room, Capstone.

NOTES FROM STUDENT AFFAIRS

The Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar, along with the Upsilon Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, is sponsoring the Cinderella Project, an effort to provide prom dresses and accessories to young girls in the Greater Columbia area who could not otherwise afford them. Please donate any gently worn formals, including bridesmaid and prom dresses, jewelry, evening bags and other acessories. To be a fairy godmother, drop off these items in Beth Davis' office, Room 140A of the Law School, or at M Boutique, The Swanky Boutique, and Sowell Gray Stepp & Lafitte. Donations will be accepted through March 2. If you are interesting in volunteering to help with the Cinderella Project Dress Drive, please let Beth know (davisej2@gwm.sc.edu).

BRIDGE THE GAP APPLICATIONS

Bridge the Gap applications are available on the bookcase between the 2L and 3L mailboxes. May grads planning to take the 6 day PMBR are requested to take the March 12-14 th Bridge the Gap program. The PMBR 6 day summer session will be held May 6-10th with a double session on one of the days.

MPRE REVIEW COURSE FOR MARCH 10TH EXAM

Registration for the MPRE Review course will begin on Monday, February 19th in Student Services, rm. 131-K. The review course will be held on Saturday, March 3 from 9a-2:30p in room 333. The cost for both the book and the class is $50.00.

REGALIA AND INVITATIONS FOR MAY GRADS

Graduation regalia measuring will take place on Wednesday, February 28 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the law school canteen. You will need 2 checks for the ordering of your regalia: one check is for $50 (this check will be returned to you when you return your regalia on graduation day) and the other check is for $56.50 (rental fee). This is professional regalia and must be returned.

If you want to order announcements, Balfour will be set up in the law lobby on the same day and same times. The cost depends on the number of announcements you order.

MAY 2007 GRADUATES

The University Registrar has mailed a degree application verification letter to you. Please review the contents of the letter carefully. Questions or corrections about the content of the letter should be directed to the University Registrar's Office at 777-5555. If you have not received a letter, degree application information is also available on VIP under academics.
