NOTES FROM THE SBA PRESIDENT

SGA SENATE SEAT AVAILABLE

One of the two Law School Student Senate seats is vacant. If you are interested in serving in the university-wide Senate as a representative of law school interests, please participate in the application and interview process. After filling out an application, you can turn it into the Student Government office in the Russell House across from Einstein Bagels. A Senate committee will then review your application and call you for an interview. Applications are available at http://www.sg.sc.edu/applications.htm. Please contact Ryan Holt with any questions: holtrc@gwm.sc.edu.

ACJA CAREER FAIR

The University Criminal Justice Association is sponsoring a Career Fair with local, state, and federal agencies in the Criminal Justice field. The FBI, US Probation Office, DEA, US Border Patrol and others will attend the event to be held Wednesday, April 11, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Russell House Ballroom. Interested law students are invited to attend. See poster on Career Services bulletin board.

3L CLASS GIFT

FINANCIAL AID

If you plan to seek financial aid or a need based scholarship for next year, don't forget to complete the FAFSA and Need Based scholarship forms. The Need Based Scholarship form must be submitted to Room 105 by June 1st. Forms for summer financial aid will be available on the University website (www.sc.edu) on April 1, 2007.

ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE

Academic Assistance Program (AAP) applications for the 2007-08 academic year are now available. Please see Beth Davis, JoAnne Heiting, Laura Long or Angie Sightler for an application. Deadline to submit applications is 5:00pm on Friday, May 4, 2007.


CHILI COOK-OFF

Tuesday, April 10, 11:30-2, Law Lobby
The Children's Advocacy Law Society is sponsoring this 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off. For $4, students, faculty, and staff will be able to sample over 15 different types of chili prepared by organizations like the Black Law Students Association, South Carolina Law Review, Public Interest Law Society, Republican Law Society, Mock Trial, Women in Law, and the International Law Society. Proceeds will go to Richland County CASA.

Please upload them to the TWEN site using your anonymous competition number. If you are unable to upload for any reason, you may drop them off with Beth Davis by 5:00 p.m.

DONATE TO HELP EAST BATON ROUGE SCHOOL SYSTEM LIBRARIES

The Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries (SEAALL) is in Baton Rouge on April 11th.

Their 2007 community service project recipient is the East Baton Rouge (EBR) Parish School System, which accepted students forced out of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. Terrye Conroy, USC Law Reference Librarian, is the Chair of the SEAALL Community Service Committee. If you would like to make a donation toward the purchase of library books and supplies, stop by the law library with your check (to East Baton Rouge Parish School System with "Library Services" in the memo line) or cash by the end of the day April 10th.

GRADUATION REGALIA

Graduation regalia will be given out on Tuesday, April 10 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the law lobby. If you do not have class on Tuesday, kindly ask another student to pick up your regalia or tell JoAnne in Student Services.

MAY BRIDGE THE GAP DEADLINE

The registration deadline for the May 7-9 Bridge the Gap session is Friday, April 27. Applications are available in Student Services, Room 131-K. Current second-year law students are eligible at this time.

May Grads, if you would like to purchase a Facebook for further reference in your legal career, do so today, as the price has dropped to $12.00. You can purchase them in Student Services, Room 131-K.
