To run for either 1L SBA Representative or 1L Honor Council positions, you must:
- Be a dues-paying member of SBA;
- Attend one of the following election information sessions:
- Tuesday, September 4, from 12:45 - 1:15 -- Room 344
- Wednesday, September 5, from 5:30 - 6 -- Room 138
- Thursday, September 6, from 6:30 - 7 - Room 138; and
- Turn in your Election Application (to be picked up at the information session) to the student mailbox of Lir Derieg, 3L, Election Committee Chairperson, by Thursday, September 6th at 7:30.
The Candidate Forum will take place on September 11th from 12:30 - 1:45 in the Auditorium. The elections will be held on September 13, 2007.

NOTES FROM THE ASSOCIATE DEAN
NEW STAFF
Please welcome new members of our Law School community:
Issa DiSciullo is our new Associate Director of Admissions. She comes from the Admissions Office at the Northeastern School of Law. She received her undergraduate degree from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts and earned her Masters in Higher Education at Northeastern in Boston. She will be joining us in early September, and her office will be located in Suite 105.
Megan Seiner is our new Associate Director of Career Services. She received her undergraduate degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and her J.D. from Rutgers University. She has practiced as an attorney with FEMA. Her office is located in the Career Services office, Room 139.
Also, Tootie Hooks has moved from Admissions to Student Affairs. She will be working as an assistant to Beth Davis, the Director of Student Affairs. She will be responsible for distributing the Student Journal and Organization office keys, keeping Student Organization records and helping with Student Travel.
Jennifer Hile is our new Publications Specialist. She received her BA in English with a minor in Journalism from USC in 2000.
Alicia Smith is our new Director of Development.

PHI ALPHA DELTA MEETING

Are you interested in criminal law? Prosecution? Professional ethics? Come listen to and meet Amie Clifford, Director of the National Center for Prosecution Ethics. She'll talk about the professional and ethical challenges facing prosecutors, especially the new concerns rising out of the Nifong decision (disbarred prosecutor involved in the Duke Lacrosse scandal). MOOT COURT INTEREST MEETING

The Moot Court Bar will hold a meeting to get information about the upcoming 2L Competition. The annual 2L Competition serves the purpose of selecting the new members of the organization. Second-year law students interested in attaining a position on the bar compete in the fall competition by submitting a written brief and then participating in two rounds of oral argument before a panel of judges comprised of local judges, attorneys, and appellate-level law clerks. Lunch will be served. All 2Ls are invited to attend.

TUTORING FOR 1Ls
Tutoring sessions for Fall 2007 will begin the week of September 4, 2007 and will continue every week throughout the semester. All first-year law students are encouraged to attend. The sessions are open to all 1Ls and are designed to provide students with assistance with coursework by going over material discussed in class and by answering questions concerning the legal topics discussed in class. Signs will be posted throughout the law school with day, time, and room information for each session.
JOINT JOURNAL WRITING COMPETITION
The Joint Journal Writing Competition for 2L transfer students will begin on Thursday, September 6 at 9:00 a.m. and end on Monday, September 10 at 11:30 a.m. 2L transfer students interested in competing may register on TWEN beginning on Monday, August 27 at 9:00 a.m. Please contact Lucas Asper at lucasasper@gmail.com with any questions.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW SYMPOSIUM
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Southeastern Environmental Law Journal Symposium entitled "Balancing Private and Public Rights in the Coastal Zone in the Era of Climate Change: The Fifteenth Anniversary of Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council." The symposium dates are Thursday, September 20 and Friday, September 21. The Georgetown Environmental Law and Policy Institute at Georgetown University Law Center is co-sponsoring the event. Students who attend a majority of the panels are eligible to attend the banquet on Thursday evening held at the Museum of Art. This presents an awesome opportunity to interact with experts in the field of environmental law, South Carolina public officials, renowned professors, and members of the legal profession.
BEACH CLEAN-UP DAY
Come join the Environmental Law Society as we participate in The Ocean Conservancy's Beach Cleanup Day. We will be traveling to Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, to help clean up our coast. The timing of this Beach Clean up is especially relevant, as it takes place the weekend before the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal's Lucas Symposium. Come and see why the South Carolina Coast is such a special place before you attend the symposium to better understand the issues at stake. All students welcome. Bring a sandwich for lunch and donate your lunch money to help the survivors of the devastating earthquake in Peru. Sarah Beth Mulet spent part of her summer helping the people of Peru and has friends on site who will use our donations to help the children with schools supplies. International Aid programs are working to address the infrastructure relief but it is the little things that will help to bring normalcy to the families. A few hundred dollars from us can go a long way! Collection jar is in the Pro Bono Program Office.

SCANNING FOR SEPTEMBER 15TH S.C. STATE FOOTBALL GAME
We will scan for the September 15th S.C. State/USC football game on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 4th and 5th from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. If you are interested in obtaining a ticket, please bring you student ID to Room 131-K for scanning. If the demand exceeds 287, we will have a lottery. These tickets will be distributed on Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14th from Student Services, Room 131-K.

2Ls and 3Ls - An urgent request to update 2007-2008 Student Directory Sheets. If you received another 2007-2008 Student Directory sheet in your mailbox, it means we have not received your first completed sheet. Please complete this form at once and drop it in the basket next to the Student Services office, Room 131-K. We must receive an updated, signed sheet from each student.
BACK TO SCHOOL COFFEE
Our monthly back-to-school Student/Faculty Coffee will be held on Wednesday, September 12 from 9:45 - 10:30 am in the law lobby. We will help Eric Montalvo, 2L, (and his wife, Holly) raise money for his commitment to run the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. on October 28, 2007. We hope you will come to the coffee to enjoy a bagel or doughnut but most of all to donate the Eric's cause. All the money collected is donated to the research of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. Hope to see you there!
NOVEMBER MPRE EXAM
The November MPRE test date is set for Saturday, November 3, 2007; the receipt deadline is September 25, 2007. Register on line, www.act.org/mpre/services. The MPRE Review course will be given on Saturday, October 27, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. at the law school. (NOT as listed online under Bar-Bri, Columbia, S.C.)
Registration for the MPRE Review course can be made in Student Services, Room 131-K. The fee for the book and class is $50.00.
