UVA NATIONAL SOFTBALL TOURNEY

The UVA School of Law is hosting its world famous softball tourney, the unofficial "law school national softball championship," the weekend of April 4-6th, 2008. USC Law sent a quality team to the tourney last year, put on a spectacular run and nearly knocked off the UVA gold team, the eventual tournament champion. We'd like to send another team this year to attempt to break the UVA juggernaut.

Due to the tournament's proximity to exams, and students' propensity to hunker down pre-exams, we are gauging interest to see if fielding a team is even a possibility. If we have enough interest, tryouts will be held in the early spring and the USC law team will play in the USC spring intramural league.

For more information on the Law School Invitational, please see www.ngsl.com. Please email Brooks Fuller if you are interested in playing on the team or have any questions: fuller.brooks@gmail.com .

TEXTBOOK STAMPING AND COMPUTER ENGRAVING

Back by popular demand, USC campus safety will be at the law school on October 24 and 25th to help ensure your valuables are kept safe. Officer Adams will be in the lobby to register and engrave your laptops and stamp your textbooks with invisible ink.

Please contact Joe Harris with any questions: joe.c.harris@gmail.com

LEXISNEXIS SCAVENGER HUNT

The next 2 clues in ye LexisNexis Scavenger Hunt are: (1) During the first six months of 2007, 12 Singapore-flag merchant ships were attacked by pirates. (Hint: News & Business > Combined Sources > Major Newspapers > Search: Singapore-flag merchant ship and pirates) (2) The article The Federal Key to the Judiciary Act of 1789 published in the summer of 1995 by the South Carolina Law Review mentions pirates in a footnote. Hunt for the footnote and name the article in the note. (Hint: Legal > Secondary Legal > Law Reviews & Journals > Individual Law Reviews & Journals > S - U > South Carolina Law Review > Restrict by Date: 01/01/1995 to 12/31/1995 > Term: pirate)

STEAL A COPY OF MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 (well, almost)

While Microsoft has long offered the discounted Home/Student version of Office, this offer is probably their best yet for qualified students. Microsoft is offering Office Ultimate 2007 (their top Office suite package) for only $59.95, which includes:

  • Access 2007
  • Accounting Express 2007
  • Excel 2007
  • InfoPath 2007
  • Groove 2007
  • OneNote 2007
  • Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager
  • PowerPoint 2007
  • Publisher 2007
  • Word 2007

All that's needed is a valid .edu address. The offer is good through April 30, 2008, with more details at Microsoft's Ultimate Steal web site (http://www.theultimatesteal.com/) and their Education web page (http://www.microsoft.com/education/ultimatesteal.mspx). This is probably as close to free that Microsoft has gotten with a brand new Office suite, and it's a very complete suite to boot.
