Courses

Fall, 2002 Semester

CONSUMER BANKRUPTCY CLINIC, LAWS 761 (3 hours) This course will provide both a substantive and clinical approach to bankruptcy law. The course will cover discharge, asset retention, and secured and unsecured credit. Procedural topics will include the mechanics of commencing and litigating consumer bankruptcy cases. Students will also receive instruction through simulation and actual client representation

Spring, 2003 Semester

ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION, LAWS 629 (3 hours) This course will survey and critically analyze alternatives to trials. Relatively few legal disputes should or do end up in court. For most cases non-judicial resolutions are preferable, yet law schools give little attention to other forums. Among other things, this course will explore the nature and usefulness of negotiation, arbitration, mediation, and mini-trial.

INTERVIEWING, COUNSELING, AND NEGOTIATION, LAWS 771 (3 hours) This course provides an introduction to interviewing, negotiation, and counseling in a variety of legal contexts. Emphasis is placed on helping students improve skills that are essential to accomplish these tasks competently, particularly problem-solving skills.
