Members of the Class of 2003 Are "Sharks with Hearts"

|

Last year the 2002 graduating class established the first 3-L Gift Program. The program was designed to encourage the graduating class to make a pledge toward a class gift that is determined annually by the class steering committee. This year David Miller and Kendra Worley chaired the Class of 2003 gift committee. The committee determined that the class gift would support the William Shepard McAninch Public Interest Law Loan Forgiveness Program. To date, the class has raised over $70,000 with 40 percent of class members participating in the campaign. The committee was comprised of: Carmen Maye, Chris Colwell, David Hartman, Elizabeth Schwartz-Corn, Elizabeth White Philips, Freddy Faircloth, Ginny Nissen, Jennifer Parrish, Joy Stoney, Julie Flaming, Katie Dunson, Maggie Boyer, Nikole Haltiwanger, Paaris Snell, Susan Barber-Hacket, Terri Vincent, Todd Nichols and Vincent Northcutt.
Each year a theme is chosen, and this years theme was Sharks with Hearts. The committee mapped out a methodical plan from teasers in mailboxes to a kick-off party for the graduating class that showed off some award-winning performances by their classmates. Then a campaign to obtain pledges began with the enticements of prizes donated by the S.C. Bar for Bridge the Gap, the S.C. Bar Review with a half-scholarship for the S.C. Bar Review course, a scholarship donated by PMBR for its review course, and a set of the South Carolina Code of Law Books from West Group. This year the law school faculty pitched in and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity and the S.C. Bar sponsored a faculty auction in honor of the Class of 2003 Gift. The faculty provided dinners, (with and without their presence,) a wine tasting, a boat cruise, golf matches, cookouts, lunches, books, and other gifts. The auction netted a $3,500 donation toward the class gift. Congratulations to the USC School of Laws Class of 2003 . On behalf of the law-school community, we thank you for supporting your alma mater.
