A Letter from the Interim Dean

Interim Dean, Francis P. Mood (left), is welcomed by John E. Montgomery, who will be leaving the Dean's position and returning to full-time teaching in August 2004.

Dear Alumni:

To serve the University of South Carolina School of Law as interim dean is an opportunity which I did not anticipate, but it is one which I approach with great enthusiasm and commitment. I look forward to my association with the respected faculty of the School of Law (thereby perhaps enhancing my own reputation) and the time I will have to spend with our remarkably talented students. The dedicated staff of the law school and the University have already given me their wholehearted support and assistance as I begin this experience. I specifically thank John Montgomery for his gracious welcome and the many courtesies he has extended as I succeed him in this office. The University and the legal profession owe John an extraordinary debt of thanks for his stalwart service to the School of Law as its dean.

At the time of this writing, it is too early to come to you with specific reports; however, in a general sense, my objective for the next few months is to ensure that all of us in the law school family set the stage for the success of our next permanent dean. During my time here, I hope that you will visit the law school, call on us if we can be of assistance to you, and offer us your counsel.

The University of South Carolina School of Law is a good place, worthy of our best efforts and generous support.

Best regards,

Francis P. Mood
Interim Dean
