To enhance its student recruitment
efforts, the Admissions Office has initiated a new student program, the
School
of Law Advocates. Fifteen students were selected by student
organizations to participate based on their contributions to the
school.
The School of Law
Advocates support Admissions Office activities, recruit new students,
and promote positive relations with prospective students, alumni, and
community members. The Advocates give school tours, participate in
alumni events, create outreach projects, and assist with open houses
and information sessions. They recently helped host a Minority
Recruitment Day, with one prospective student commenting, “It really
gave me the direction I needed in preparing for law school. I want to
thank all of the students and staff who aided me in this process.”
Prospective and current students alike can benefit from the program.
Overture E. Walker, who was an Advocate before graduating in December
2004, said, “The School of Law Advocates program is a tremendous
addition and asset to the law school. The program is an excellent
reflection of the spirit of the school and enables prospective students
to gain a realistic view of the law school through the eyes of current
students.”
Recognizing the value of the Advocates beyond its impact on students,
Paul Rollins, assistant dean for student affairs, sees the program
extending a hand to the entire community. “Each student who has been
selected as an Advocate is committed to presenting a positive image of
the law school. This institution is proud to have such a distinguished
and accomplished group of students as its representatives.”

Successful Law
School Phonathon Provides
Critical Support for Students
■ In February,
alumni were contacted by University students and asked to make an
annual gift to the School of Law. We are pleased to announce that
our alumni pledged approximately $55,000, a 244 percent increase
from the previous year. In addition, the number of alumni
participating increased 200 percent. We extend a special thanks to
all those alums for their gifts. |
