Real Property, Probate, and Trust Journal
of the ABA Continues Its Partnership with the School of Law |

In
1989, the University of South Carolina School of Law forged a valuable
partnership with the American Bar Association. This ongoing partnership
provides a wonderful opportunity for USC law students, who play an
important role in the publication of the Real Property, Probate and
Trust Journal, a peer reviewed law journal that is published on a
quarterly basis by the American Bar Association’s Section of Real
Property, Probate, and Trust Law.
Since 1989, when Dean John
Montgomery and Professor S. Alan Medlin helped bring the Journal to USC, the School of Law has benefited from the national attention that
the Journal attracts. “We’re grateful for both the tangible and the
intangible. We are one of a few schools to have such a solid
relationship with the ABA,” said Medlin, who serves as a faculty
advisor.
The second largest law review in the country in terms of the number of
subscribers, the Journal’s 32,000 subscribers include section members
as well as major law firms and law libraries. Each issue of the Journal
contains four to seven articles.
A staff of USC students performs the core editing for the Journal,
editing articles written by leading practitioners and academicians from
across the United States. The students who serve on the editorial board
are known for their exemplary work on the Journal and in the classroom.
Thirty-two percent of the Journal staff are members of the Order of the
Wig and Robe, which recognizes students with the most outstanding
scholastic records.
Emily Gifford, the Journal’s student editor-in-chief for 2004–2005,
said, “The editing and writing experience will really benefit all of us
when we’re practicing attorneys. I’ve also met a lot of new people and
have been able to network. USC is lucky to have such a great
relationship with the ABA.”
