Maymester at Gray's Inn
Transnational Dispute Resolution at Gray's Inn, London
The School of Law offers a study abroad program in London, taught during the month of May in conjunction with The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, one of the four London Inns of Court.
The course, titled "Transnational Dispute Resolution", is taught on the premises of Gray's Inn, located in central London near the Law Courts between the West End and Bloomsbury. Interested students are encouraged to visit the Gray's Inn Web site at www.graysinn.org.uk. The subject matter of the course includes U.S./English comparative law, international dispute resolution in English and European courts, conflict of laws and alternative dispute resolution, among other relevant topics. The subject matter lends itself to an interest not only in dispute resolution, but also in English legal history and institutions, comparative law and international commercial law.
Class meets four mornings a week, with Thursday afternoons and Fridays left free. Arrangements are made for visits to London legal sites such as Parliament, the Law Courts, the London Court of International Arbitration and the other Inns of Court. One function of Gray's Inn is the training of student barristers, and formal interaction between our students and the Gray's Inn student barristers includes dinners "in Hall" in the inn's 16th-century Great Hall, and a debate (in which the School of Law team has a very strong record).
