Thomas McCullough Boulware
1883-1953
Thomas McCullough Boulware, the son of Thomas McCullough and Mary Mobley Woodward Boulware, was born June 25, 1883, in the Woodward Community of Fairfield County. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1909.
He practiced at Barnwell until 1943 and, thereafter, at Allendale until his death. He served as a Special Circuit Judge, as President of the South Carolina Bar Association in 1935 and also as President of the Allendale Bar Association. He authored "Guide to Removal and Its Prevention", which dealt with Federal practice.
He served as President and Charter Director of the Barnwell Chamber of Commerce; Chairman of the Barnwell School Board, Government Appeal Agent and Legal Advisor for the local draft board and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He was married to Vera Thomas, who, with their three children, survived him. One son, Thomas McCullough Boulware, Jr., was killed while a pilot in World War II.
A scholar, he was known for the meticulous preparation of his cases and for his knowledge of the law. As an advocate, he was a respected foe.
