Gustavus Werber Bryan
1914-1990

Born Sumter County, son of William Alfred and Catherine (Moses) Bryan. Graduated U.S.C. B.A. 1936, L.L.B. 1938. Member of Phi Beta Kappa, O.D.K., Wig & Robe, Pi Gamma Mu and Kappa Sigma.

Practiced law in Darlington law firm of Bryan & Mozingo. Then entered U.S. Army, where he served overseas for thirty-six months. Later founded own law firm, now Sumter's largest firm.

Married Elizabeth Rebecca Trowell in December, 1947. Children: Andrena Elizabeth Bryan (Mrs. John Paul Miguez), Susan Carson Bryan (Mrs. Frank Wilson Adams), Cornelia Kearse Bryan (Mrs. William Brian Zell), and Johnathan Werber Bryan.

Werber Bryan had a remarkable career. He was an excellent lawyer, an outstanding Army Officer, a dedicated public servant and a devoted family man.

He was a member of many service clubs and other organizations, always taking a leadership role. He received many awards and honors for his dedicated service to others.

Werber Bryan's life and his dedication to public service should serve as an example to all. As one of his colleagues has said: "Werber Bryan was Sumter County's greatest public servant."
