Dennis Bryan Leatherwood
Born near Waynesville, North Carolina, son of James Robert and Flora Davis Leatherwood. Attended Cullowee College and University of North Carolina to receive Bachelor and Law degrees.
Began practice in Greenville as associate of Oscar Hodges, who later became Judge of Greenville County Court.
Began individual practice and established highly respected reputation as an outstanding trial lawyer in western South Carolina. Represented plaintiffs or defendants and was equally adept in either category; also, a most highly respected criminal defense lawyer.
Active in public affairs, serving as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Greenville County Democratic Party, and President, County Bar Association. A loyal church man at Buncombe Street Methodist Church.
Principal founder and senior member of Leatherwood and Walker which began January 1, 1946, and continues as Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann, P.C., one of the State's largest firms.
A devoted family man; he and his lovely wife, Mary Walker, who passed away in June of 1992, had three daughters: Mary Walker Morris, Elizabeth Thomas and Jean Buck. Upon retirement in 1967, he devoted himself to family and gardening, particularly his 364 rose bushes. His roses were gorgeous and were presented generously to friends, hospital patients, churches and wedding parties. His professional skills, family, roses and wit earned for him widespread affection and respect.
