Ernest Joseph Howard
1930-2000

Ernest Howard was born in Greenville, South Carolina on April 13, 1930 and died on October 22, 2000. He was educated at St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Greenville High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School in 1954.

Ernest was the son of the late Elias and Susan Jabour Howard who immigrated to the United States from Lebanon. Ernest was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reserve as a commissioned officer.

Ernest was an Assistant United States Attorney, District of South Carolina, and subsequently became the founding partner of the law firm of Howard, Howard, Francis & Reid, LLP.

Ernest was active in the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, and was past president of the Greenville County Bar Association. He was also active in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Howayeck Howard; a daughter and son-in-law, Carole H. and Joseph S. Lyles; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Ernest J. Howard, Jr. and Catherine E. Howard, and Andrew M. and Annmarie A. Howard; and a brother, Sam P. Howard, Sr., all of Greenville; and ten grandchildren.
