2011 Kate Bockman Competition Results Statement of PurposeThis organization has been established by students of the University of South Carolina School of Law in order to learn and adopt principles of appellate advocacy; to enhance analytical, writing and oral advocacy skills; to administer intramural moot court competitions at the Law School; to select and prepare teams to represent the Law School at extramural moot court competitions; to encourage respect for the highest standards of professionalism before our state and federal appellate courts; and to promote the Moot Court Bar's activities within the Law School, the legal profession and the community at large. A Brief HistoryCyrus David Melton, the second professor of law at the University of South Carolina School of Law, established the first Moot Court at the law school in 1869. The Moot Court began in the fall semester of 1869 and continued meetings twice per month during the semester through the closing of the law school in 1877. Joseph Daniel Pope reestablished the Moot Court when the law school reopened in 1884. Since then, the University of South Carolina School of Law Moot Court Bar has remained a student organization focused on nurturing students' appellate advocacy skills. 2011-2012 Executive Council
