The Moot Court Bar of the University of South Carolina School of Law has recently extended invitations to 19 new members of the organization. The Moot Court Bar holds an annual 2L Competition for the purpose of selecting the new members of the organization. Second-year law students (2Ls), who are interested in attaining a position on the bar, compete in the 2L competition by submitting a written brief and then participating in two rounds of oral argument before a panel of judges comprised of local judges, attorneys, and appellate-level law clerks. This year’s 2L Competition was open to the 229 members of the 2L class, out of which 19 were invited to the bar. Following the extension of invitations to the bar, the 19 invitees participated in a ranking round, which determined the top competitors, known as the Order of the Barristers. The top four competitors, Mac McQuillin, Miles Coleman, Stephanie Trotter, and Claire Hall, competed in a Final Round before the South Carolina Court of Appeals.
The Moot Court Bar would like to convey special thanks to the Moot Court Bar's faculty advisor, Professor Robert Bockman; to the professors, attorneys, judges, and appellate-level clerks who assisted in conducting the 2L Competition; the current Executive Council and current members of the Moot Court Bar; and to all of the 2Ls who worked so hard and diligently in the competition.
