| |

Several students thought this may be helpful, so here are the steps you need to take in order to access the wireless network at school. If you a Mac, I am not positive this will work, but give it a try and if you are still having problems then go see Jim Epting.

  1. Go to Control panel
-click on Network and Internet Connections
    -then click on Network Connections
-then left click on wireless connection
    -and go to Properties
  2. After clicking on Properties
-click on the tab at the top that says "Wireless Network"
-then click on the button that says "Add"
  3. After clicking on "Add"
-where it says "Network name, SSID" type in: 5Tud3nT (this is case sensitive)
-where it says "Data encryption", make sure it is on Disabled
-next, click ok to get out of the window for "Add"
-then, click ok again to get out of the window for "Properties"
  4. Go online and type in www.sc.edu
-in a few seconds it should redirect you to a site where you will type in your username and password
-if you don't remember your username and password from VIP, then you will need to go to the computer lab, get online, and go to the VIP site
-once logged into VIP, go to Technology, and then Network/Username
-it will tell you your username and you can update your password
  5. After typing in your username and password on www.sc.edu a new page should come up
-click on the link to download "Cisco Clean Access agent"
-download it to your desktop and then install it
-you will then be prompted and asked if you want to install the newer version, click ok
  6. After installing the newer version a box will come up asking for your username and password
-type in the same username and password as you used before (from VIP) and click log in
  7. Get back online
-it should go directly to a site where you can download 2 different programs
-click on the link to download "VPN Client for Windows"
-download it to your desktop and then install it
-when it asks for your username and password, use the same as before
-after installing, it will prompt you to restart your computer, click ok
  8. Once your computer restarts, an icon will appear on your desktop labeled "USC Wireless Security"
-double click on this icon and enter the same username and password as before
-you should now be able to get online, if you have any problems check the suggestion below
-if you still can't get online then ask a classmate or go see Jim Epting on the second floor of the library

If you are having problems
