What kind of pro bono or volunteer work have you been involved in?
President, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Carolina
Board member of the Friends of the Richland County Public Library
Finance Chair, Three Rivers District (inner city, boy scout program)

What are the main reasons why you would recommend that law students become involved in pro bono work?
Broadens your horizons, enables you to give back to the community, provides an opportunity to get to know other like-minded law students, a break from the day to day law school routine

How would you encourage current law students to get involved with the Pro Bono program?
Provide a variety of activities of various commitment levels

Has pro bono work contributed to your sense of career satisfaction?
My probono activities aren't really related to my position at commerce

Did your experiences in the Pro Bono program at USC prepare you or benefit you in your career?
Without question.

In your career, have you seen an overlap between your volunteer work and your sense of your own place in the community and the legal profession?
Volunteer works has definitely brought me closer to Columbia

How do pro bono efforts fit in to the work of the South Carolina Bar?
Not sure.

What kind of perceptions, positive or negative, do you think that the bar as a whole has about attorneys who are actively involved in pro bono work?
I think the negative perceptions of probono work , principally held by certain elements of an older generation of lawyers, is diminishing as the younger generations enjoy taking part in efforts and understand that it is an integral part of doing business and living in a community

What is most memorable/best experience you had during your law school career through the Pro Bono program?
Helping set up Project Ayuda and responding to the voicemail messages.

What does the 20th Anniversary of the Pro Bono program mean to you?
My pro bono time flew by. It was the highlight of my law school career.

What is your most cherished memory with Pam?
Long conversations about politics, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
