Professor Stravitz practiced law and an Associate in the New York firm of Cleary, Gottliev, Steen & Hamilton for nine years (1974-83) before joining the USC law faculty in 1983. A specialist on civil practice and procedure, he teaches Civil Procedure, Federal Practice, Religious Legal Systems: Jewish Law, Advanced Civil Practice & Procedure, Creditors' Rights, Federal Courts, and Mass Torts.

Professor Stravitz has written a number of articles on aspects of civil practice and the federal courts, has recently moderated a panel discussion at the South Carolina Bar CLE titled "Court-Enforced Secret: Formation, Debate, and Application of South Carolina's New Secrecy Rules," and delivered a lecture at South Carolina Bar CLE on "Electronic Discovery" entitled "Legal Issues Relating to Electronic Document Preservation." He is member of the Order of the Coif and Co-Reporter for the South Carolina Study of the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act.
