An authority on Constitutional Law, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, Administrative Law, and Criminal Law, Professor Wedlock joined the USC law faculty in 1969 where he regularly teaches courses in these areas of expertise. Among his most notable scholarly achievements was the 1986 publication of The Tree of Liberty: A Documentary History of Rebellion and Political Crime in the United States (which he co-edited with Nicholas N. Kittrie for Johns Hopkins University Press; revised edition, 1998). The revised edition was cited as the Best Book in Law for 1998 by the Association of American Publishers).
In addition to his coursework and scholarship, Professor Wedlock has served on the USC Faculty Senate; University Grievance Committee; worked as Executive Editor of the School of Law's Journal of Law & Education; and served as a resource to state legislative committees and the press on constitutional and criminal law issues. He has been a member of the Education Law Association and Executive Editor of the Journal of Law and Education since 1973. Recently, Professor Wedlock served as a panelist on the Charleston ACLU forum on the Patriot Act; presided at the session on "Affirmative Action after Grutz and Grutter" at the Annual Meeting of the Education Law Association; served as a panel member at USC-Spartanburg's forum discussing the arguments in Brown vs. Board of Education; and delivered an in-house CLE for the staff of the Supreme Court of South Carolina on "Education Finance and Race." His service the state and community includes election to the Boards of the South Carolina Development Corporation and the South Carolina Diabetes Initiative.
